This year’s awards season is, of course, unlike any other – but that doesn’t mean the glamour has been forgotten. Taking place last night, the BAFTAs ceremony spanned continents, with some guests attending in person at the Royal Albert Hall, and some tuning in from the US via video links.
None of this dulled the shine of the evening’s best beauty looks, with stars such as Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Cynthia Erivo providing plenty of inspiration for our own post-lockdown make-up moves.
Here, see the stand-outs from the evening up close…
1
Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s modern take on 1920s glamour was created by make-up artist Alex Babsky, who kept the eyes neutral to ensure all focus was on that perfect berry lip.
2
Priyanka Chopra
Make-up artist Wendy Rowe matched the scarlet-red shade of Priyanka Chopra’s look with a similarly stand-out lip and gently smoky eyes.
3
Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo picked out the sparkling shades of her Louis Vuitton dress with an iridescent, bronze-toned eyeshadow and light-reflecting glossy lip.
4
Phoebe Dynevor
Phoebe Dynevor kept it classic with a subtle cat-eye liner and warm, neutral lip. Her deep side parting cleverly adds volume at the roots, ensuring those undone curls are full of movement.
5
Bukky Bakray
The youngest ever recipient of the BAFTA Rising Star award, 19 year-old Bukky Bakray worked with make-up artist Joy Adenuga and hairstylist Dionne Smith to create her classically chic look.
“Bukky wanted a smokey eye that wasn’t too overwhelming. I took into consideration the shape of her eyes before deciding to limit the black and work more with peach and dark brown hues,” said Adenuga, who used Lancôme products alongside false eyelashes from her own line.
Smith, who first used her own Signature Midi Hair Straightener & Curler to press Bukky’s hair out, explains the trick to the perfect top-knot is “to hold the hair up and then fold it back, leaving some hair to wrap around the base.”
6
Celeste
Celeste, who performed live at the ceremony, delivered the perfect smoky eye, paired with a warm brick-red lip and boyish brushed-up brows.
7
Vanessa Kirby
Vanessa Kirby’s Cartier High Jewellery creations were matched with an equally timeless beauty look.
Make-up artist Katey Denno delivered a masterclass in the perfect graphic liner, using a liquid pen to hug the lash-line before angling up into a sharp flick.
