International Women’s Day was yesterday. HBO Max used the occasion to announce that it was working on a documentary about the US Women’s National Team and their 2019 World Cup season.
LFG (short for “Let’s f***ing go!”) is the title of the new documentary. Oscar award winning directors Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine are behind it. The streaming service did not announce an official premier date.
“These women’s trailblazing ascent is history in the making and exactly the type of groundbreaking stories we love bringing to audiences,” director Sean Fine said.
The documentary highlights the constant fight for equality for female players and equal compensation from the US Soccer Federation. The dominance of the USA’s Gold Medal in 2019 shined a light on this matter.
Viewers will hear from Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis, and others.
“This fight is so much bigger than ourselves and the Women’s National Team”, said US Captain Megan Rapinoe. “We’re doing it for the next generation of female soccer players and for women throughout the world in all industries and walks of life who are also fighting for equality.”
