Director Paul Haggis is currently detained in Italy for allegedly sexually assaulting an Italian woman in the southern part of the country.
He directed Crash
The director of the 2004 hit “Crash” and writer of the boxing drama “Million Dollar Baby” has visited Italy to attend a film festival in Ostuni, a town of Puglia, which is the heel of the boot-shaped country.
Italian media have made a letter from the prosecutors public
The letter states that a “young foreign woman” was forced to have non-consensual sex during two days.
Priya Chaudhry who is Haggis attorney has made it clear that she believes in the innocence of his client “I am confident that all allegations will be dismissed against Mr. Haggis. He is totally innocent and willing to fully cooperate with the authorities so the truth comes out quickly.”
The events are being investigated
Antonio Negro and Livia Orlando are both the prosecutors who are on top of the investigation and they are claiming that the woman in question was “forced to seek medical care” after having sex which they also claim was against her will.
Prosecutors also claim that Higgis took her to the airport on Sunday and “was left there at dawn despite (her) precarious physical and psychological conditions.”
The prosecutor’s office was closed on Sunday so there was no further comment on the matter
The woman’s lawyers claim that the airport’s staff and police saw her confused and distort and took her to the police precinct and then to the hospital so she could receive medical treatment and examination.
